How do I know if my technician is qualified?

Having a qualified technician working on your equipment is very important.  You wouldn’t want your mechanic providing pharmaceutical assistance or vice-versa?  This might not seem like a good comparison but we’re talking about safety and there are extremely dangerous examples of non-certified technicians working on equipment.

Some ways to find out if your technician is qualified to work on your equipment:

  • Ask for the technician’s certification document
  • Have a competitor’s technician inspect your equipment
  • Look into past equipment repairs & why they were done
  • Have you had repeat repairs?
The small independent service provider might save you $10 on the labour rate but buyer beware.  If that technician is not certified and doesn’t have the proper insurance, you could be asking for trouble.  There are situations where a maintenance person is working on lift-trucks.  Make sure they have the proper training.  A certified technician will prevent many breakdowns and equipment related injuries.
Make sure your technician is qualified.  If you have any questions about your service provider, I’m happy to provide all of the information I might have.
